About Ruthspoetry…

Hi everyone. I’m Ruth Brodrick, a lover of poetry and stories,  especially of African origin.

I think writing for me is innate, I can remember scrambling words in my books when am upset or sad and can’t say it.  Writing was my escape, so growing up, I knew if there was anything I would rather be,  it would be becoming a wordsmith…

Think of writing as a bowl of chocolate spiced with strawberry, lol, and you will understand how enthusiastic I am about poetry. So I decided to create a blog where I can post my poems, in other to reach out to those who love and enjoy reading.

I love reading poems, short stories and prose, any work that is beautiful also, so you got me if you’re a writer and a good one.

For me, writing is my bad habit, lol. It’s a medium I use to express my view about facts, ideas, fictions, real life events, etc. Am sure this blog will get you elated and keep you itchy for more reading…

    Its so refreshing to read the texts of somebody in med school, im studying to become a doctor too and Im really missing creative people in this sphere, so keep up the good work:) /Mary B

  9. Thanks for the “like” on my “Important Tip from NYPD” post, Ruth. May not seem like it from my Blog site by I write poetry too. (Well, I TRY to write poetry. I love language at play.)   16. Thank you, Ruth for the follow and for the introduction of yourself to a fellow poet. Though I’ve a secret, you must keep it, please. I’m not a poet. I only pretend. I never wanted to be such a thing. I’m not even a writer. My written expression is but a struggling release, a safety valve of emotion blown far beyond its pressure point, words spewed out of the bowels of oppression and injustice wrought on all the creatures of planet earth. That is all. However, I do enjoy reading the works of the more gifted wordsmiths and just by sampling a few of your poems and stories, I see that you fall into the upper echelons of this group. Quite poetic, your work; and bound to a natural rhythm I find easy and enjoyable to read.

  17. If its a secret, then the world knows already, so how do I keep it then? I enjoyed the flow of your emotions, I thought of it as powerful and intruiging, yes I agree with you, you’re not like us, because you’re different and exceptional. I Look forward to reading more of your outbursts, and oh, by the way, I’m still an amateur…:-)

    Be ashamed to die until you have won
    Some victory for humanity. Horace Mann

    Be aware that energy is life, save some for your kids.
    Be afraid that our minds are bent by news not books.
    Be awed by the healing power of the simple purple cone flower.
    Be amazed that after four short years she knows so much.
    Be awake before the bombs drop, before the money rules.
    Be agile: live in a town that walks and bikes to work and play.
    Be amused by ants and birds, goats and potato fields, lilacs and sycamores.
    Be angry only long enough to solve the problem, then move on.
    Be ashamed to die until you have won some victory for humanity.

    Thank you for your extended visit and the flood of ‘Likes’ you left.
    I am rather stunned by your writing.
    Your poetry and prose seem very worldly, almost brutal, from someone I imagine to be very young.
    It is powerful stuff, but I sincerely hope it is not your own life you are writing about.

    1. Hi ceayr, pleasure is mine, I love your blog, so you’d be seeing more of me now.
      You got me laughing when you said my works are wordly and almost brutal, I would really love for you to explain further, this is the first time I’m hearing this and would love to know why?
      And oh, no need to panick, I actually don’t write about myself, if I do, 1 out of 100 times, my writing is just an expression of things I see in this world, around me, or an idea that pops up in my tiny head. I hope to hear from you….

        i have had some problems with a hand and I am way behind in my communications.
        How to explain what I said 6 weeks ago!
        I have just reread Without Help and Tilted Sorrow and still think you are knowledgeable beyond your years.
        Although I don’t think I have any idea of your age, so that might well be rubbish!
        But it seems to me that you have, in the expression du jour, an old soul.
        My comment was meant encouragingly, positively, I do hope you did not take it any other way.
        I write poetry under another pseudonym, but I do not believe mine has the bite of yours.

I write based on an influence on my mind, and that influence could be anything. Well, you can say I have an old soul, but I’d rather say I have a poetic soul that speaks to touch, that way my poetry speaks through all age brackets.
